Dr Venugopalan Poothirikovil (Dr Venu)

I am a consultant paediatrician with Cardiology Expertise at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, with long standing experience in both general paediatrics and paediatric cardiology over the last 20 years.

I have established paediatric cardiology services in the ALEX and look after 100’s of children with heart problems in the NHS as well as the Private sector.

I hold honorary post at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and fully accredited to the European Association of Cardio-vascular imaging.

My special areas of interest in Cardiology include heart murmurs, chest pain, palpitation, fainting including POTS, fits and funny turns, family history of heart disease and sudden death. With regard to general paediatrics, I have expertise in management of chest problems and allergies besides common abdominal problems.

I also spend time in teaching, research and assessment of doctors. I am a senior examiner and examiner trainer at the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health. I am the immediate past Chair of the Paediatricians With Cardiology Expertise Special Interest Group (PECSIG).
